I’m not a religious person but spirituality is something that seems to enter my life at my most vulnerable times. I have delved into forms of belief and taken part in some powerful meditation sessions and ceremonies. I think these ancient practices historically became a veiled side of the natural world and for me they are journeys of age-old knowledge, self- awareness, and personal development to sustaining internal health and clarity of mind.
Last week I was riding around my neighborhood, and I came across a Buddhist Meditation Centre where I met Sister and so after a delightful introduction, I booked an appointment the following day for my first genuine meditation session in a few years.
Earlier that day I visited my mum who’s in palliative care and close to leaving the planet. Her deterioration was too much for me to bare and I broke down. My mother has been in pain all her life and I’ve carried that despair with me for all of mine.
Later that day despite my depression I attended my session with Sister and felt newly transformed after a 30-minute meditation with a brief counsel that helped immensely. Since then, I’ve attended regular sessions and Sister has accepted my offer in return to help
her maintain her yard. She is sharp but elderly and she also cares for her very aged mother and her blind brother.
Due to this circumstance their back yard has become unkempt and requires a complete renovation. Yesterday I repaved a section of the side pathway which Sister has been doing her best to lay by herself. On further investigation this yard is a health and safety hazard, but I can see the potential of the end result of much work, so I have taken this on as a volunteer project while I have the time to put myself to good use as I continue to collect rejections from
unsuitable employers unworthy of my skills, talents, and credentials.
Although the bigger problems of the world may be beyond our ordinary reach to resolve, we can still achieve smaller but significant objectives within our reach of control over our
minds, bodies, environment, and circle of community.
